Section A. Pedagogical Core.
Splitting the Content-specific Methods course and practicum into two parts:
The current MST Adolescence program requires a four-credit content specific methods course and a linked two-credit practicum experience (six credits total), typically offered in the fall semester only. There is a content specific methods course and practicum for English Methods, Mathematics Methods, Science Methods, and Social Studies Methods.
In the proposed program each methods course and linked practicum have been split in half, with a methods/practicum pair offered in both the fall and spring semesters (three credits each semester; six credits total). Offering methods/practicum each semester, provides for instructional support and feedback across both semesters of the student’s year-long residency placement in secondary schools. Total credit rerquirements have not changed.
In the current course listing, content specific methods courses were grouped together, followed by a practicum group. Students were expected to select the methods course and practicum course that matched their area of certification. In the proposed program, the sets of each content specific methods and practicum have been grouped into content-specific sets to ease understanding.
Other Minor Program Description wording
The School of Education has switched affiliation from the NCATE accrediting organization to AAQEP. Other minor wording improvements have been included to correct or clarify.
NOTE: Course outlines for the revised methods courses and practicum experiences are in process and will be uploaded very soon.
We will be submitting these changes to NYSED and SUNY central as well. There will be an individual EEP form for each of the MST Adolescence content-specific areas (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies). The completion of these forms is also in process.
